Welcome!
Welcome to the website of the Dutch Reformed Church in Maastricht (Note: “Dutch Reformed Church” is a literal translation of the “Nederlands Gereformeerde Kerk” and is not necessarily associated with similarly named churches elsewhere in the world). After you have read all the information on this site, we sincerely hope to welcome you at one of our church services.
Who are we?
The Dutch Reformed Church of Maastricht is a small congregation consisting of about 100 members who heartily desire to serve the Lord Jesus Christ and make Him known to others as the Bible teaches us.
Many of our members are not from the Dutch Reformed background originally, but come from various denominations. The distinctive reformational character of our congregation seems to appeal to many people. We desire to be “Reformed” without being constrained to historical customs and manmade rules. This characteristic is not only found in the worship services but also in meetings with young people and study – discussion groups.
Our congregation has, relatively speaking, many families with young children.
Young people who are studying in this area of the country also feel very much at home in this church. In addition, we are a church home for many visitors who are on a vacation in this area.
One of the advantages of a smaller congregation is that you get to know one another quickly. That is very evident in our congregation. People know each other and have a way to find each other. There is a sense of interest and belonging. That translates into caring for each other – where that is needed. Both young and old occupy a worthwhile place in the community.
The weekly worship gathering is the focal point of our activities – here we listen to the meaning of God’s Word in our daily lives and the world of which we are a part.
During the weekly gathering we also regularly celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion.
On a regular basis, we also enjoy a joint activity after the service. These activities do vary from seasonal outside activities to sing-in services, but the overall goal is to get to know each other better in a meaningful and constructive way.
Walk-in Pastoral Visit Time
During the times indicated on the front page, our minister Ds Richard Vervoorn will be at the church and you can take this opportunity to have an anonymous chance to discuss any issues. Everyone is welcome – neighbors, students, non-believers, persons who have lost their confidence in the church, and of course congregation members who would rather not have a visit at home or at the minister’s home to have a discussion.
Entrance at the side door. Tafelstraat ‘0’. Please ring for entrance.

"O God, make the door of this church wide enough to receive all who need human love and fellowship, narrow enough to shut out all envy, pride, and strife. Make its threshold smooth enough to be no stumbling-block to children, nor to straying feet, but rugged and strong enough to turn back the tempter's power. Make the door of this church the gateway to your eternal kingdom. Amen." (Thomas Ken, 1637-1711)
